Researchers from Radboud University Medical Center intensive care (IC) department compared the concentration of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) and interleukins 6 and 8 (IL-6, IL-8) between COVID 19 patients and those with ARDS (Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome) and septic shock. COVID 19 patients did not have the same elevations of TNF-alpha and IL-6 or IL-8 as these other conditions. They therefore question if COVID 19 cytokine storm really exists.
